The Litaw is a spirit of the seas and rivers that usually resides in the trees that grow beside the river.

In Vigan mythology, the Litaw is a diminutive man who resides in the bamboo tree branches that line the banks of the river. The spirit occasionally travels to the surface dressed as a regular person to take care of the bamboo trees nearby. He punishes with illnesses anyone who cuts down trees. His body emits a potent fishy odor, which in his human form reveals his true nature.
